Tessa Violet’s vibe is totally mesmerizing — and hard to articulate. Insightful pop, upbeat whimsy — or maybe just thoughtful bounce? Whatever it is, it’s completely unique — and impossible to stop listening to. In this music video for Haze, simple and surreal, you get a glimpse of her singular charisma. The Nashville-based Youtube sensation is certainly making her mark — and she has the songwriting skills to back it up. Her respect from the music comes through every step of the way.
“I’m primarily a guitar player but I wrote a lot of the songs for this EP on piano,” she told CelebMix. “I wrote my last record on guitar and I wanted to break my old pattern of thinking (musically) and stretch myself in an unfamiliar way. Usually, I start with a concept – what’s the song about? Then I play around with a progression and melody until I find something that’s hitting me, then the lyrics come and shape the melody or vice versa. It really depends on the song and my mood! ‘Dream’ took over a year to write, I wrote the verse in the spring and didn’t land on a chorus I liked until over a year later, whereas ‘On My Own’ I wrote in a day. Usually, the songs about anxiety pour out of me where the love songs take more crafting. Maybe that says something haha.” I think we can all relate to that.

It’s achingly honest, dark pop that’s staggering from such a young artist. Keep your eye on Tessa Violet.
