A Much-Needed Moment To Recoup Near Buna

At first glance, this image could have been taken almost anywhere. A group of friends swimming and washing — but on closer inspection you can see the uniforms, the serious look on many of the faces. This image was caught during a lull in the Battle of Buna-Gona.

Here you can see American soldiers of the parachute unit of the Fifth Air Force (5 AF) taking a break during the New Guinea Campaign. Just having a moment to wash their uniforms and reset would have been a crucial morale booster.
