Two Members Of The New Zealand Infantry In Barbiano Di Cotignola

A well earned reward. Here you can see two New Zealand Infantrymen of the 2nd New Zealand Infantry Division, 2nd New Zealand Expeditionary Force (2NZEF). A woman pours them a glass of wine as many civilians look on.

This image was captured in the newly liberated Italian village of Barbiano di Cotignola. The area finally was liberated and fell to the Allies after six gruelling months of bombardment, part of the Italian Campaign. Though this may look like a simple gesture, the gravity of the moment cannot be underestimated.
