A Funny, Gripping Look Behind “The Psychopath Test”
The psychopath test has become common parlance, largely due to the incredible book from Jon Ronson. The idea of taking the test is intriguing and exciting to many of us — but you’ve probably heard that if you’re the sort of person worried about taking the psychopath test, then you probably aren’t one yourself. But it holds a fascination in popular culture, one that’s explored in this Ted Talk.
“Is there a definitive line that divides crazy from sane?” the description explains. “With a hair-raising delivery, Jon Ronson, author of The Psychopath Test, illuminates the gray areas between the two. (With live-mixed sound by Julian Treasure and animation by Evan Grant.)”
He’s an entertaining and engaging speaker, but this talk fulfils a morbid curiosity about what, exactly, constitutes a psychopath. Is it true that 1% of the population is actually psychopathic? And how can you tell who is? In this video, he cuts through the myths and media coverage to look at some of the most common examples in our midst. This led him, perhaps unsurprisingly, to CEOs and some of the biggest corporations in the world.

Are we too caught up in the nature of psychopathy — are we too desperate to find? Ronson looks beyond the tidbits, the stories, the morsels, to get to the heart of the story and explore how we define the people around us.
