Soviet Army Soldiers Burrow Into The Snow During The Battle Of Moscow

It looks brutally cold — but that does not serve as a deterrent. Here you can see Soviet Army soldiers with a PTRD-41 anti-tank rifle taking aim. The soldiers were intent on protecting their position during the Battle of Moscow.

The Soviets put on an impressive defence, which helped to dampen Axis attacks on Moscow — a major target — and led to the failure of the Axis forces in the region. Soviet troops were able to halt the Axis troops and force them back to positions around Oryol, Vyazma and Vitebsk.
