KWAYE Covers “Purple Rain” In This Incredible Mahogany Session

Taking on Prince is no easy feat — and taking on “Purple Rain” is even more of a challenge. And yet, in this cover, KWAYE manages to do  justice to the original.

Paying homage to Prince’s version of the song, you still feel all of the pull, charm, and emotion that you expect. But KWAYE gives a totally personal twist, one that showcases his incredible range and musicality. The singer, who was discovered in the back of an Uber, is clearly just starting a career that’s destined for great things.

Of course, as with all of the Mahogany Sessions, the visuals and settings set it off beautifully. With a brick background, warm lighting, and the focus directed solely on the singer and his talent, it’s the kind of video that draws you in and makes you want to watch it again and again.
