There’s no doubt that, in many circles, Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker is the single most anticipated film of the year. With the recent release of the final trailer, fans are more excited than ever to see how this trilogy in the Star Wars universe draws to a close.

One issue that promises to be at the heart of the film — the relationship between Rey and Kylo Ren — is also one of the most contentious among fans.

“Obviously, there’s this whole Reylo thing and some people are very passionate about it, some aren’t,” Daisy Ridley told Entertainment Weekly. “J.J. does deal with [it] … It’s a very complex issue. People talk about toxic relationships and whatever it is. It’s no joke and I think it’s dealt with really well because it’s not skimmed over.”

So far, there’s only so much that can be gleaned from the trailer — but it’s clear that fan theories are already swirling.
