An achingly human moment, in the middle of war. Here you can see Canadian Trooper K. Kosak, of Winnipeg’s The Fort Garry Horse, 38 Canadian Brigade Group, showing a local woman a photograph from home. There’s something so striking about the universality of this photo — two people, from thousands of miles apart, brought together in the Netherlands by war, but still with that twinkling recognition in their eyes as they share their experiences. Between the pride of the Canadian Trooper and the woman’s knitting, temporarily forgotten, there’s something incredibly reassuring about the photo.
