Even after it was over, it wasn’t over. Here you can see a German soldier being attacked by a group of Dutch civilians and members of the Dutch Resistance. This took place on the Rokin in Amsterdam, during the city’s liberation. Although the Canadian Army had taken hold and Germany capitulated on 5th of May, 1945, groups of German troops refused to surrender. Many had to finally be rooted out by hand-to-hand combat and some parts of the country would not be fully liberated until several months after the capitulation.
