It’s an arresting scene. Here you can see Australian soldiers of the 6th Division, Second Australian Imperial Force, as they prepare to depart for the Middle East. The 6th Division first fought against Italian forces in North Africa in 1941, before taking part in Battle of Greece. These Australian soldiers then returned to their homeland briefly, before being committed to the New Guinea Campaign. From 1943 to early 1944 they were reorganized, before forming one of the last Australian operations of the war during the Aitape-Wewak Campaign, which would go on until August 1945.
