The Red Cross has been responsible for so much good for so long. We don’t often think about the simple practicalities of war. Here you can see a British Red Cross worker, as she gives out biscuits and tea. PIctured in the stretcher is one of the recently released Australian POWs who were waiting to be transported to the Australian hospital ship TSMV Manunda. Although they’re close to reaching freedom and enjoying luxuries like tea and biscuits, these soldiers would have been captured and held for years in Japanese POW camps — and only beginning their road to recovery.
