If you’re an avid Star Wars fan— or just an appreciator of great stage combat— this is a video for you. It’s a behind-the-scenes look at the fight training that went into filming Star Wars: The Last Jedi. And, to be honest, just watching it is exhausting. You expect that the exercise and practice that goes into these films will require a lot of dedication, but seeing the day-to-day efforts that go into it is truly impressive. These are actors who are not backing down from a challenge. And how could they? Star Wars fight scenes are legendary, so they have to be ready.
All of major players had to undergo grueling, rigorous training for their various fight scenes. The best moment is probably when the instructor said he planned on teaching Daisy Ridley an entire bit of choreography over three days. How long did it take Daisy? An hour and a half. But she’s not the only impressive cast member. You get to see Gwendoline Christie grapple with wearing a huge and obscenely heavy costume, see John Boyega determined to do his own fight scenes no matter how complicated, Kelly Marie Train mastering different disciplines, and you get to see Adam Driver being, well, the most terrifyingly intense and dedicated actor ever, which seems pretty par for the course with him.
If you’re getting pumped about seeing Star Wars: The Last Jedi, this will just up your enthusiasm. Take a look at all the behind-the-scenes training here:
I told you it was bad ass. Every single actor has their eyes on the prize and we can’t wait to see what the finished result looks like. Luckily, there’s not much longer to wait. Star Wars: The Last Jedi premiers December 9th. But book your tickets early, because it looks like it’s going to be a smashing success.
