If you’re a fan of the Norwegian sensation Sigrid, who has burst onto the international stage, you need to check out this version of Don’t Kill My Vibe. Her first single from Island Records had everyone hooked, but this acoustic version delivers so much more.

Between a pared-back, home setting and acoustic accompaniment, it really lets her incredible vocal control stand out. Growing up in a small town in Norway, the new breakthrough act clearly put a lot of effort into perfecting her sound. A delicate falsetto that she occasionally changes up with a harsher, rawer sound, it makes for a completely enchanting mix. Paired with lyrics that are both confrontational and assured— the whole picture shows a maturity beyond her years.

You think you’re so important to me, don’t you?

But I wanted you to know that you don’t belong here

You think you’re so important to me, don’t you?

Don’t kill my vibe

You love to tear me down, you pick me apart

Then build me up like I depend on you, no

But I throw myself from heights that used to scare me

Guess you’re surprised I’m the puzzle you can’t figure out

The video itself, though simple, is visually stunning.  And the best part? It’s totally authentic. We filmed the video in my family home in Ålesund,” Sigrid said. “I wrote a lot of tunes on the piano, read books in the conservatory, and sneak peaked in my parent’s bookshelf…” Plus, it’s the coolest piano I’ve ever seen. There’s so much to appreciate in the tiny details and beautiful coloring of this crisp, uncluttered background.

She’s definitely not just one to watch but, as an established act in her home country, you can be sure I’ll be digging up everything of hers I can find. This vocal talent is definitely worth following.
