Leah Remini has opened up about leaving the Church of Scientology, revealing how her old beliefs system made her “lose touch with the real world”.
The actress sparked headlines when she confirmed back in 2013 that she had chosen to depart the organisation, and later filed a missing person report for the wife of controversial Scientology leader David Miscavige.
Speaking to ABC News’ 20/20 programme, the actress spoke about the religious movement, saying: “As time goes on, you start to lose touch with the real world. The mindset becomes ‘us against them’.
“I feel that people need to understand this has been my whole life. I want them to understand how it happens.”
She went on to say that, at the time, she believed anyone who criticised Tom Cruise to be evil.
“Being critical of Tom Cruise is being critical of Scientology itself… you are evil,” Remini said.
The full interview will air on ABC News’ 20/20 on Friday (October 30) at 10pm ET.
